MUST WATCH: BGP: the First 18 Years
If you’re at all interested in the history of networking, you simply MUST watch the BGP at 18: Lessons In Protocol Design lecture by Dr. Yakov Rekhter recorded in 2007 (as you can probably guess from the awful video quality) (HT: Berislav Todorovic via LinkedIn).
Coincidence, or did you wait to post this until the video itself was 18 years old?
I had the blog post scheduled for the last decade 😜 Just kidding, pure coincidence. Thanks for pointing it out!
Great talk, thanks for sharing. I guess the pragmatism vs. idealism dilemma canot be solved, just like liberty vs. security or specialization vs. ubiquity... because as much as one can value pragmatism, going too far that road leads to unmantainable ultra-particularism without a chance for interoperability. Anyway, the simple but time-proofed extensibility model of BGP-4 sure is great.
