"Deep, heavy thoughts" indeed - but regarding predictability itself(as part of scientific method) - you can always "poke at the methodology and the ideology that underpins it" and all that remains could be:
“Naïveté is doing the same thing over and over, and always expecting the same result.” - particularly in network engineering.
