Update: Cisco Nexus Switches

Third vendor in this year’s series of data center switching updates: Cisco.

As expected, Cisco launched a number of new switches in 2017, and EOL’d older models … for pretty varying value of old. For example, most of the original Nexus 9300 models are gone.

On the software side Nexus OS made some progress, but not as much as in the previous years (and I admit I stopped tracking Nexus 7000 software). Nexus 9000 series got various BGP and QoS features and improved VXLAN/EVPN support… and after a long wait the configuration archive and configuration change logging.

Amazingly, Nexus OS finally got configuration replace, but it’s only available on Nexus 7000 as it was introduced in NX-OS release 8.2(1). Meanwhile, the flagship data center switching line, Nexus 9000, is still on release 7.0. Go figure…

You can access the updated videos if you bought the webinar recording in the past or if you have an active ipSpace.net subscription.

The Data Center Fabrics material is also included with the Designing and Building Data Center Fabrics and Building Next-Generation Data Center online courses.

    1. I'm guessing you're referring to these https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/white-paper-c11-738503.pdf and not Cisco ACI (ACI is not covered by this webinar).

Those are design considerations that will be covered in Leaf-and-Spine Fabric Designs materials. All you need from the software functionality standpoint is EVPN-over-EBGP and next-hop handling on EBGP sessions.
